The Zhenfa Sect Incident was an event that occurred at the Zhenfa Sect, leading to the sect’s annihilation.
Legend[]
Legend has it that the Zhenfa Sect was wiped out overnight decades ago for unknown reasons. Some rumors suggest it was due to internal strife over the position of sect leader, while others claim they offended someone they shouldn’t have, or even that they responded to signals from outer space. One thing is certain: that night, no one in the Zhenfa Sect survived. In the mountains, Gui Qulai erected a monument for them, confirming the sect’s destruction.
Participants[]
- Zhenfa Sect Chief and disciples such as Gui Qulai and Jia Yibing
- Jiguan Sect Chief and their disciples
- Zitong, Tiemian, and the Martial Alliance Guards
- Yishe, Erxiang, and their gang
- Jinkuai (the mastermind behind the scenes)
Actual process[]
Before the Zhenfa Sect Incident, during a pursuit, Beiming was separated from Feng Liuniang and Hanguang, severely injured and unconscious. He was rescued by the Zhenfa Sect Chief, who had a close personal relationship with Beiming’s father. The sect leader treated Beiming well, and during that time, he developed several arrays related to the Qilin Cauldron. One of these arrays used the Qilin Cauldron as its core, siphoning Qili from others for personal use. After recovering, Beiming left the Zhenfa Sect. Jinkuai exploited the sect’s sheltering of Beiming, accusing the Zhenfa Sect of colluding with Beiming and inciting various forces to besiege the sect. He also instructed the Jiguan Sect Chief to seize the Zhenfa Compendium.
The Jiguan Sect and the Martial Alliance went to the Zhenfa Sect to demand answers. The Zhenfa Sect Chief denied harboring Beiming, but the Jiguan Sect insisted that the Zhenfa Sect was colluding with Beiming in an attempt to claim the Qilin Cauldron. They demanded that the sect hand over Beiming and the Qilin Cauldron, or they would destroy the sect. However, Beiming had already left by then. The Alliance Guards stepped forward, demanding an explanation. When the Zhenfa Sect disciples pushed back, it was interpreted as an attack on the Jiguan Sect and the Alliance Guards. The Jiguan Sect Chief ordered the sect’s destruction, and his disciples attacked. The Zhenfa Sect disciples activated their defensive arrays. At the time, the captain Zitong was reluctant to resort to violence, but someone suddenly attacked him. An Alliance Guard shouted, “How dare you attack our captain!” and ordered the others to attack. Zitong tried to calm them down but failed, and the situation descended into chaos. His disciple, Tiemian, was also injured and fell unconscious.
Jia Yibing and Gui Qulai were the only survivors. They heard their master’s final words: Jia Yibing heard “live well,” while Gui Qulai heard “restore the sect.” Jia Yibing was attacked again and lost consciousness. When he woke up, he could not find his master but discovered the Zhenfa Scroll. He vowed to follow his master’s last words and live well, hiding his identity in the Wanshi Sect. Gui Qulai, believing he heard “restore the sect,” lived in obscurity, working as a scavenger near the Zhenfa Sect, hoping to one day revive the sect. It wasn’t until they reunited that they realized the full message was “live well and restore the sect.”
The Jiguan Sect Chief obtained the Zhenfa Compendium and completed his mission, handing it over to Erxiang. He questioned why “that person” (Jinkuai) needed such a grand scheme. It turned out that one of their goals was to pit the major sects against each other and force them to hand over the Zhenfa Compendium. Realizing there was an ambush, the Jiguan Sect Chief finally understood that they had planned to betray him all along. Erxiang threatened him to hand over the compendium. He tried to escape, but a tree was cut down, blocking his path. He fought back against the masked men and Erxiang, but he was stabbed from behind. He set a trap, causing trees to collapse, which allowed him to escape and return to the Jiguan Sect. However, he was severely injured and knew he didn’t have long to live. Unwilling to let the truth be buried, he wrote a final letter, hoping that someone would one day read it and bring the mastermind to justice. Jinkuai sent people to search for the Jiguan Sect but found nothing until Gui Qulai and the others discovered the Zhenfa Compendium.
After the incident, Zitong felt responsible and became disillusioned, questioning the ironclad rules he had always upheld. Ashamed to return to the Martial Alliance or face the Alliance Guards, he wrote a letter to Tiemian and resigned from his position as captain. He then lived in obscurity, trying to forget this dark chapter of his life. During the incident, many Alliance Guards were severely injured. After recovering, Tiemian returned to the Martial Alliance, intending to find his master, Zitong, only to learn that Zitong had resigned and left him a letter. In the letter, Zitong expressed his doubts about the ironclad rules he had always enforced, which angered Tiemian.
Outcome[]
Zhenfa Sect[]
No one survived except for Gui Qulai and Jia Yibing. Gui Qulai lived in obscurity, working as a scavenger near the Zhenfa Sect, hoping to one day restore the sect. Jia Yibing went to the Wanshi Sect, hiding his identity and living in obscurity.
Jiguan Sect[]
Due to the attacks by Erxiang and others, the Jiguan Sect Chief was mortally wounded. He wrote a final letter hoping someone would discover the truth and bring the mastermind to justice. The Jiguan Sect subsequently vanished.
Jinkuai and others[]
They continued searching for the Jiguan Sect but found nothing until they discovered the sect’s ruins. Gui Qulai found the Zhenfa Compendium there, and they seized the first half of it. In “Do Not Say That Floating Clouds Will Forever Block the Sun” (Martial World Rescue, episode 56), they used it to set up the Soul-Siphoning Zhenfa.
Zitong and Tiemian[]
After the incident, Zitong became disillusioned and felt responsible. He chose to resign and live in obscurity as a vegetable vendor, becoming more passive in conflicts. Zitong wrote a letter to Tiemian, expressing his doubts about the ironclad rules he had always enforced, which angered Tiemian.
Additionally, after the incident, Zitong covered his eyes, and Tiemain developed heterochromia. The backstory behind this was not directly revealed in the main series but was hinted at in subsequent livestreams, with comments like “there’s a story behind it” and “it’s not convenient to say directly,” leaving it to audience speculation. Some viewers speculated that Zitong gave his eyes to Tiemian or that Zitong used all his Qili to save Tiemian. The official response was that all audience guesses were correct.
