Summary[]
After the incident with the Zhenfa Sect, the Martial Alliance Guards were severely injured. Tiemian, having recovered, returned to the Alliance, intending to find his master Zitong, only to learn that Zitong had resigned and left him a letter. In it, Zitong expressed his guilt over the events and confusion about his beliefs, questioning the ironclad rules he had once upheld. This angered Tiemian.
Zitong praised Tiemian for becoming more mature and composed over the years, but Tiemian retorted that people change, pointing out that Zitong had changed as well. Zitong admitting that everything had changed after the Zhenfa Sect incident, and he felt responsible for Tiemian’s injuries, unsure how to face him. Tiemian questioned why Zitong had chosen to walk away back then, only to return now.
When Tiemian first joined the guards, Zitong warned him not to become complacent, emphasizing that being a competent guard meant more than just appearances. Tiemian replied that he wanted Zitong to see his own strength and then left, leaving Zitong somewhat shocked.
In a past incident, Zitong led the guards against criminals, taking several guards with him while leaving Tiemian at the door to provide support. Tiemian suddenly smelled burning and saw a mouse crash through the door. He rushed inside to find Zitong and the other guards battling the criminals. Spotting a criminal preparing to destroy evidence with fire power, Tiemian instinctively blocked the important evidence with his body. Zitong defeated the criminal intent on burning the evidence, only to see Tiemian injured. Tiemian reported that the evidence was intact, but Zitong, shocked by the scene, reprimanded him for leaving his post. He emphasized that as a guard, the most critical rule was to obey orders; if Tiemian couldn’t do that, he shouldn’t be a guard. Tiemian was frightened and agreed, but Zitong insisted that Tiemian must pass an evaluation before calling him master.
Tiemian questioned how Zitong, who once taught him that obedience was paramount, could now express doubts about the very rules he instilled in Tiemian. Zitong hesitated, admitting that he was confused back then, not understanding why fulfilling orders led to suffering for an entire sect. He explained that he returned with answers, uncovering hidden truths about the Zhenfa Sect incident. He started to recount his discovery of the letter from the master of Jiguan Sect, revealing that behind Martial Alliance’s public condemnation of the Zhenfa Sect, there were ulterior motives to obtain the Zhenfa Compendium. Tiemian was skeptical, arguing it could merely be one side of the story from the Jiguan Sect Chief. Zitong countered, referencing his investigation that indicated the Alliance had received reports about the Zhenfa Sect colluding with Beiming, yet the details about the informant were completely absent from the records; likewise, the process of the Alliance obtaining the Qilin Cauldron was glossed over.
Realizing there were issues with the files, Zitong pointed out that those who could collude with and manipulate Jiguan Sect Chief likely held power within the upper echelons of the Alliance. Zitong reiterated what he had once told Tiemian about the importance of obedience but added that he didn’t want that to become Tiemian’s shackles. He invited Tiemian to join him in uncovering the infiltrator to restore peace to the Alliance and clear the Zhenfa Sect’s name, smiling encouragingly. However, Tiemian refused, stating that he was the only one left in the Alliance and that Zitong, no longer a guard, didn’t have the authority to investigate. Zitong withdrew his hand, surprised and disappointed, but resolved to find the person who could validate his words.
In the Qimao Kingdom, Haoyue and Prince Li were rescued. Upon awakening, Haoyue saw her family and Slowy, and Prince Li also regained consciousness. The King of the Qimao Kingdom wondered about their experiences in Lingxi Kingdom and inquired about the whereabouts of the goats and Wolffy. Haoyue recounted their ordeal, explaining how they barely escaped but were ambushed by the guards and fell off a cliff, swept away by the river. Luckily, a Qishou saved them, after which they lost consciousness. Slowy realized that Weslie and the others were in danger in Lingxi Kingdom and resolved to rescue them, with Wolnie joining in. The King of the Qimao Kingdom realized that the Alliance had long been imprisoning Haoyue and Prince Li, deceiving them with false letters claiming they were safe. The kings of Qimao and Miaogou Kingdom decided to send troops to Lingxi Kingdom for rescue.
In the archive room, catfied Weslie was searching for records from the Alliance elders. Tiemian recalled Zitong’s warning about issues within the upper ranks and noticed someone in the archive room. Upon entering, he discovered catfied Weslie hiding on a shelf but didn’t immediately expose him. When catfied Weslie thought he was undetected, Tiemian reopened the door, stating that he had left his post to investigate the Watergate and had entered the archive room without permission. catfied Weslie was at a loss for how to explain, fearing that admitting he was investigating the Alliance would lead to reprimands and alert the elders. Tiemian noticed the records hidden behind catfied Weslie, deducing that he was also investigating the upper ranks.
Hearing Tiemian say “also”, catfied Weslie recalled Tiemian’s earlier insistence that as guards, they should investigate any case with even the slightest suspicion to prevent innocent people from suffering unjustly. Catfied Weslie admitted he indeed suspected problems within the Alliance. Tiemian pressed for evidence, and catfied Weslie pointed out that Aotian from the Duanshui Sect had used a counterfeit Qilin Cauldron in an attempt to undermine the sect, revealing that all the weapons used by Aotian’s accomplices came from the Alliance’s armory. Only the upper echelons of the Alliance could discreetly mobilize such a large arsenal.
Tiemian realized that catfied Weslie had deduced that Aotian was using a fake cauldron even before Beiming arrived. When pressed, catfied Weslie hesitated, claiming that Weslie wouldn’t give Aotian the real cauldron. Tiemian questioned this, asserting that only Weslie knew the true location of the real cauldron. catfied Weslie speculated that Weslie and Aotian didn’t seem to be in cahoots. Tiemian decided not to press further, telling catfied Weslie to return, and he himself left the archive room. Tiemian suddenly remembered catfied Weslie’s investigation into the jade ring and wondered why he was so concerned about it. He recalled their first meeting, where catfied Weslie had angrily dismissed questions about the wanted criminal Weslie. Tiemian reflected on catfied Weslie’s earlier dereliction of duty and his own reprimand. From catfied Weslie’s demeanor, he deduced that catfied Weslie was Weslie.
At the elders’ meeting, Jinkuai reported that the princes and princesses of Qimao and Miaogou Kingdom were missing, and Weslie had vanished with the Qilin Cauldron. Just then, Tiemian entered, stating he had urgent news to report…
